Mr. J.L. Hogan of Coffee Springs, Alabama passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013.  He was 86.


Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 17, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Dale Morgan officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 9:00 am and continue until service time.  Burial will follow in the Eden Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.


Mr. Hogan was born November 4, 1926 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Talmer Lee and Irene Jones Hogan.  He was a member of the Samson Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.  For more than thirty years he served as City Clerk for the town of Samson. He enjoyed farming and was a lifelong member of Eden Baptist Church.


In addition to his parents a brother, Ralph Hogan, two sisters, Lottie Johnson and Ruby Nell Willis, as well as a step son, Donnie Preachers and a step daughter, Faye Haney, all preceded him in death.


Survivors include two daughters: Charlotte Sharp (Bill), Atlanta, GA and Becky Creel of Coffee Springs; two step daughters: Gail Jay (Bobby Joe), Samson, and Sherrie Early (Henry), Florala; step daughter-in-law, Shirley Preachers, Samson; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.


Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
