John Gary Thornton, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, December 24, 2015 at his residence. He was 67.

Funeral service for Mr. Thornton will be held at 3 PM Sunday, December 27, 2015 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverend John Mouery officiating. Private family burial will be held at Hodgesville Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 PM until 2:45 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2740 Headland Ave., Dothan, AL 36303.

Mr. Thornton was born April 12, 1948 in Dothan to Horace and Earnestine Lawrence Thornton. He was a graduate of Cottonwood High School and later retired as a lineman with the City of Dothan. Mr. Thornton was good with his hands and could fix anything, he especially loved working on motorcycles. Mr. Thornton also had a love for animals and was a member at Hodgesville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Cannon Thornton, Dothan; two daughters, Tiffiney Cole and her husband, Nick, Laney Hatcher and her husband, Chris, all of Cottonwood; two grandchildren, Randall Cole and Farron Wyatt Hatcher; sister, Teena Dyson, Dothan and a brother, Mac Thornton and his wife, Sue, Cottonwood.

Serving as pallbearers will be; Kelvin Andrews, Sammy Roney, Jeff Thornton, Joe Thornton, Steve Thornton and David Cannon.
