Mr. John Marcus Martin, age 87 of Dothan passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016.

 

Born December 22, 1928 in Houston County to the late Oma Lee and Pearl Estelle Thomley Martin, Mr. Martin served his country in the United States Air Force. He had been an active member of Cloverdale Baptist Church since 1964 and he enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Betty L. Martin.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Dawn (John) McShaffrey; his son, Mike (Cathy) Martin; his sisters, Jean Rice and Patsy (Lawrence) Durden; his brother, Merlin (Faye) Martin; his grandchildren, Christopher McShaffrey, Monica McShaffrey, Natalie McCaskill, and Emily (Brandon) Goodson; his great-grandchildren, Dalton McCaskill and Miller Goodson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Cloverdale Baptist Church with Dr. Ray McKenzie and Reverend Steve Skidmore officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 PM, Friday, January 8, 2016 at Cloverdale Baptist Church.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Cloverdale Baptist Church or Thee Store c/o Columbia Baptist Association.
