Mr. Kulon Strickland of Geneva passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013.  He was 81.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Maple Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Shirah officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Maple Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1009 W. Maple Avenue, Geneva, AL 36340.

 

Mr. Strickland was born in Holmes County, FL on September 27, 1932 to the late Z.Y. and Cavie Ray Owens Strickland.  He served in the US Navy from 1955 until 1959.  He then began his career at Ft. Rucker as an aircraft mechanic, retiring as a Lead Inspector after thirty-six years of service.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Meadows Strickland; step-son, Bobby Chancy; infant grandson, Thomas Chancy; two brothers, Eugene Strickland and Jerry Strickland; and one sister, Mary Strickland May.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Strickland; two daughters, Diane Vickers (Ben) and Donna Helms (George); son, Michael Strickland; step-son, Russell Chancy, all of Geneva; ten grandchildren, Mason Vickers, Preston Vickers, Jeffrey Vickers, Jacob Helms, Rachel Helms, Joseph Strickland, Robby Chancy, Cecilia Chancy, Eric Chancy and Christopher Chancy; four great grandchildren, Lane Vickers, Collin Vickers, Mary Grace Chancy and Isabel Chancy; three brothers, James Strickland (Linda) of Black, AL, Billy Strickland (Sue) of Lake City, FL, and Terrell Strickland (Linda) of Boynton Beach, FL; sister, Pat Shriver (Ted) of Boca Raton, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
