Lee Kelly, 64, of Dothan, Alabama, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Noland Hospital following an extended illness.


 


Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Ricky Plummer officiating and Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the funeral home.


 


In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be made to Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, 1004-A O’Reilly Avenue, San Francisco, California  94129 or to Bethel Baptist Church, 3257 E. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, Alabama  36301.


 


Born in Dothan, Alabama, Lee was a son of the late Foy Kelly and Reba McClellan Swearengin. He attended school in Birmingham, Alabama and Auburndale, Florida before returning to Dothan and attending Wallace Community College. He worked as an insurance agent for Independent Life Insurance Company for a number of years prior to his employment with the U.S. Postal service as a letter carrier for a career that spanned over twenty years. Lee was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and served as a shop steward and as the treasurer of the Local NALC Branch 1630. Lee was a former member of Heritage Baptist Church where he served as deacon and is presently a member of Bethel Baptist Church.


 


Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by a brother, Foy Mack Kelly and a sister, Connie Kelly Meyer.


 


Surviving are his wife, Terri Jeffries Kelly, Dothan, Alabama; Mother-in-law, Betty Jeffries, Dothan, Alabama; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his very special pets, Bruiser and Deacon.
