Mr. Leroy Braxton of Geneva, Alabama passed away Monday, July 07, 2014.  He was 91.


Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Mike Shirah officiating and his granddaughter, Jennifer, delivering the eulogy.  Burial will follow in the Pondtown United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday and continue until service time.


The family asked that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.


Mr. Braxton was born October 11, 1922, in Black, Alabama to the late Cecil Clifton and Willie Maye Durden Braxton.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  During his military career he served during WWII driving a tank for General Patton.  The majority of his working career was in textiles.  At an early age he began working with Geneva Cotton Mills, later known as Clinton Mills, where he retired after several years of service.  He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.


In addition to his parents his wife, Hazel Braxton, two daughters: Barbara Chancey and Lynda Stanley, as well as two sisters: Neva Bonds and Beulah Mae Hicks, preceded him in death.


Survivors include two granddaughters: Jennifer Washington (Kyle) of Jackson, GA and Christi Chambers (Ladon) of Shorterville, AL; six great-grandchildren: Garrett, Scarlett, Nathan, Braxton, Savannah and Noah; other extended family and friends.
