Lonnie Gene Sims, 69, husband of Laura Sims, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at his residence in Ashford, Alabama surrounded by his family.

 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Coley Holloway and Reverend Dean Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery on Creek Church Road in Ashford, Alabama with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Creek United Methodist Cemetery Fund, C/O Sarah Harper, 3535 S. Co. Road 75, Pansey, Alabama 36370 or to Southern Care Hospice, 2576 Montgomery Highway # 2, Dothan, Alabama 36303.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the funeral home and at other times will be at the family residence.

 

Lonnie was born November 5, 1944 in Ashford, Alabama and lived there all his life. He was a farmer by trade.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother and father,  Quida and Johnny Sims and a sister, Mable Ingram.

 

Surviving are his wife of forty eight years, Laura Adams Sims; a son and daughter-in-law, Stan (Alicia) Sims; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelli (Mitchell) Vickers; four grandchildren, Alexis and Ansley Sims, Payton Williams and Emilee Vickers; two sisters, Earline (George) Ward and Edna Ingram; two brothers, John (Helen) Sims and Mitchell (Donna) Sims; several nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to express a very special thank you to Southern Care Hospice especially Michelle Presley, Vanita Newman, Hollie Crutchfield and Kelly Sheffield.
