Mr. Robert Glenn Brown of Dothan passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015. He was 88.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Dothan First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Sanders and Rev. Allie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

 

The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 A.M. Tuesday, September 29, 2015, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the In Christ Name Fund at First United Church.

 

Mr. Brown was in the Infantry Field Artillery stationed in Japan during World War II. He started as an instructor at Wallace in 1948 and when Wallace was designated as a Junior College he was made Dean of the Technical Department. In 1974, he was promoted to President of Opelika Technical College and he was instrumental in combining Opelika Tech with Southern Union. He was a Florida State graduate and received his Post Secondary degree from the University of Alabama. He retired after 40 years in technical education. He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, golf and gardening. He was a member of the Hackers Golf Group at the Dothan Country Club. He loved his hunting dogs and he loved his two granddogs.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Ruby Brown, brothers Joe Floyd, John Andrew, and sisters Anne Dowling, Ruby Lee Smith and Marjorie Sims.

 

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Betty Williams Brown of Dothan; daughter Donna Oliphint and her husband Tom of Montgomery; brother Wallace Brown of Maricopa AZ; granddaughter Elisabeth Oliphint of Nashville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
