Mr. Roy Kennington of Samson passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014.  He was 78.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2014 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson with Rev. Jimmy Eddins officiating.  Burial will follow at Shady Grove Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. 


Mr. Kennington was born in Coffee County, Ala. on October 23, 1935 to the late Rastus B. and Lena Boggs Kennington.  He was a longtime member of Sellersville Assembly of God Church.  He worked as a farmer for many years and as a mechanic at John Deere in Samson.  In his pastime Mr. Kennington enjoyed fishing and taking the kids camping.  He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Christy Simmons; and eight of his siblings. 


He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Annie Mae Kennington; son, Eddie Kennington, both of Samson; three grandchildren, Caitlin Pitchford (Wyatt) of Realtown, Ala., Dylan Baker of Auburn and Kevin Kennington (Jan) of Columbus, Ga.; two great grandchildren, Ethan Simmons and Grant Simmons, both of Samson; two sisters, Claire Odom (Bill) and Mary “Sis” Bracewell, both of Geneva; and several nieces and nephews.
