Mr. Shelby Gene Phillips of Ashford passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Noland Hospital. He was 73.

Memorial services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, July 19,2014 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rick Glenn officiating.

Mr. Phillips was married to his wife Edith for nearly 33 years and he owned and operated Phillips Garage on Old Hwy 84 E for more than 40 years. He enjoyed being a grandfather and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved sports, especially round track racing and baseball. Mr. Phillips loved his family pet “Pebbles.”

He is preceded in death by his parents Colon Henry and Ada Ruth Phillips and twin granddaughters Faith and Hope Baker.

Survivors include his wife Edith Phillips, daughter Stephanie Baker and her husband Jeff, son Donnie Chambers and his wife Paige, sisters Kathy Harden, Regina Wallace and her husband David, Frances McArdle and her husband Jimmy, brothers Joe Phillips and his wife Faye, Danny Phillips, grandchildren Alonna Baker, Halia Baker, Shelbie Chambers, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
