 Obituary: Mr. Shellie S. Barnes 


Mr. Shellie S. Barnes of Dothan passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at his residence. He was 71. 


Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2013 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb with Rev. Gary Armstrong and Rev. Dicky McAllister officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Whitaker United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and will continue until service time. 


Mr. Barnes was born September 12, 1941 in Geneva County to the late Rev. D.W. “Brink” and Hettie V. Anderson Barnes. Shellie was a member of the 1961 class of Geneva County High School.  He was an avid Geneva County High School Bulldog fan as well as an Auburn Tiger fan. He had been employed with Dyncorp at Ft. Rucker for many years. He was a member of the Dothan Masonic Lodge #466. Mr. Barnes was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, a brother, Jack Jasper Barnes preceded him in death.  


Survivors include his former wife and caregiver Mildred Alexander, Panama City, FL; first cousin, Catherine Halstead, Prattville, AL. 


Pallbearers will be Tom Bryan, Milton McGregor, Malcom Childs, Charlie Dowling, Neal Cobb and Billy Ross.
