Sterling Howell, Jr., age 75, of Dothan passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at SAMC.

Born December 10, 1940 in Cottonwood, AL to the late Sterling Howell, Sr. and Beatrice Franklin Howell, Sterling Howell started his lifelong career as a mechanic in Cottonwood.  He was owner and operator of Howell’s Auto Service which he operated from 1968 until 2005 when he retired. Sterling was one of Columbus, Georgia’s first mechanics to work on cars that had air-conditioning. He loved his cars, music, his family and the Lord.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Ray, JB and Jerry Howell, all of Dothan; two sister-in-laws, Sara Hobbs Shiver (Wendell), Mt. Dora, FL and Elaine Hobbs Enfinger (Danny), Dothan.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Eva Pearl Hobbs Howell; three daughters, Edith Howell, Dothan, Starla Money (Mark), Cottonwood, and Vanessa Andrews (Eddie), Ashford; three grandchildren, Elisha Hollis (Chris), Lee Howell (Jennifer) and Austin Andrews; three great-grandsons, Mason, Hunter, and Austin; three brothers, Bobby (Bobbie), AZ (Dean), and Danny (Jackie); two sisters, Sybil and Evelyn (Cecil); two brothers-in-law, Buddy (Jean) and Horace D (Ginger); special nephew/niece and great-niece, Andy, Stacey and Paige Hobbs and one special niece Pam Shiver; and many more nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be held at 12 PM, Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Rocky Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jeff Forrester, Justin Forrester, Todd Howell, Donnie Hoffer, Jack Collins, Robert Woodham, Bob Key, and Dewayne Godwin. Robert Wages will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The family will be accepting flowers or contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
