Mr. Thomas Daniel "Dan" Burgess of Montgomery, Alabama (formerly of Ozark, Alabama) passed away at his home Monday, May 13, 2013.  He was 52.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Ozark Praise & Worship Center with Rev. Timothy Burgess and Rev. Billy Garrett, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow at 2 p.m. CDT in Liberty Assembly of God Cemetery, Blakely, Georgia.  The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home and other times at his sister’s home, 433 Morgan Lane, Ozark.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions to Ozark Praise & Worship Center, 185 Bermuda Street, Ozark, AL 36360 or Liberty Assembly of God Church, 212 Wilkie Mosley Road, Blakely, GA  39823.


Thomas Daniel Burgess was born October 8, 1960 in Ozark, Alabama, son of Thomas D. and Thelda Mae Hagler Burgess.  He was a graduate of Carroll High School and received both his B.A. and Master’s degrees in education from University of Alabama.  He was President and CEO of TD Burgess Learning Systems in Birmingham.  Mr. Burgess was a member of Bridge of Life Assembly of God.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kay Rhodes.


Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Garrett Burgess of Montgomery; one daughter, Bethany Ann Burgess of Birmingham; one son, Benjamin Daniel Burgess of Birmingham; three sisters:  Ann Burgess Spears (Frank) of Skipperville, Dorothy Shehane (Billy) of Ozark, and Linda Campbell (Billy) of Clio; one brother, Rev. Tim Burgess (Melissa) of Ozark; and one special granddaughter, Braelyn Burgess.


Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Heisler, Donald Keel, Danny Billingsley, Eddie Spivey, Mitchell Woodham, Jeff German, Craig Hermsmeier, and Brad Cripple.

My condolences to the Burgess family. I had the pleasure of working with Dan during his time with the State. He was a strong leader with a steadfast determination to see progress. He will be missed. May he rest in peace in the loving arms of He whom he put his trust in. God bless!
