Mr. Thomas (Tommy) Eugene Buntin, Jr., age 84, a resident of Dothan died Monday, March 10, 2014. 


A family graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Dothan City Cemetery with Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing.  A Memorial Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Evergreen Presbyterian Church with Reverend Doctor Joseph Johnson and Reverend Ashley Drake Mertz officiating. 


The family will be receiving friends at Glover Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The family requests that in Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Evergreen Presbyterian Church, 1103 N. Pontiac Avenue, Dothan, AL  36303. 


T.E. Buntin, Jr. was a native of Dothan and was the son of Thomas Eugene Buntin and Eleanor Neely Buntin.  He practiced law in Dothan for 41 years.  Tommy served in the United States Army as a member of the 31st “Dixie Division” from 1950-52. 


He graduated from the University of Alabama Law School in 1955 (LL.B.) and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.  During his senior year, he received three awards for scholastic achievement.  He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1955.  He was a member of the Houston County Bar Association (President 1964), Alabama State Bar, served on several State Bar Association committees and The Advisory Committee to the United States District Court, American Bar Association, Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, Defense Research Institute and a Fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys, Charter Member of the Alabama Law Institute and Farrah Law Society and a member of the Council of Alabama Law Institute.  Listed in Who’s Who in America since 1972. 


Tommy was Past Chairman of the March of Dimes, served on the Industrial Development Board for the City of Dothan for 10 years, was a Director of the Chamber of Commerce and served 10 years as a Selective Service System governmental appeal agent.  Tommy was a former President of the Dothan Jaycees.  He was a long time member of the BPOE, and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees when the present location was purchased and was Presiding Justice for over 20 years.  As a member of the Dothan Country Club, he served three terms as President of the Board of Governors. 


Mr. Buntin was ordained a Deacon in 1st Presbyterian Church in 1957 where he served as a Sunday school teacher, assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School Department and Church Treasurer.  Tommy loved Evergreen Presbyterian where he was a member for 14 years. 


He was preceded in death by his parents. 


Survivors include: wife, Sandra Tanner Pruitt Buntin, Dothan; daughter, Julia Elizabeth Buntin, New Orleans, LA; son, Thomas Eugene Buntin, III, Dothan; daughter, Ellen Buntin Dawson, Dothan; daughter, Catherine Buntin Johnson, Dothan; daughter, Rosemary Buntin Gillespy, Birmingham; son, Charles Douglas Buntin, Dothan; son, Bradley Hugh Pruitt, Louisville, KY; son, Christopher Mark Pruitt, Dothan; sister, Eloise Buntin Hovater, Huntsville; 19 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.
