            Mr. Vernon Reese Murphy of Kinston, AL passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at his residence.  He was 80.

            A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Alabama Children’s Hospital Foundation, 1600 7^th Ave. South, Birmingham, AL 35233.

            He was born April 24, 1933 in Florala, Alabama to the late James Madison and Esther Fleming Murphy.  He served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant for 4 years.  He adored his family, especially his grandsons.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and bird hunting and trained his own dogs.  He was retired from Covington Industries, having worked for a number of years in the cutting room.  He loved Alabama football (Roll Tide).

            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Gladys Merle Moore and Lucille McCleod, and 2 brothers, James Clifford Murphy and C.B. Murphy.

            Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou Norris Murphy, 2 daughters, Carolyn Murphy Archie (Tim) and Angela Murphy, 2 sons, Kenneth D. Murphy and Jimmy Murphy, all of Kinston; 2 grandsons: Trent Archie, Birmingham, AL, Trace Archie, Kinston; special nieces and nephews: Jeanette Hildebrand, Georgetown, TX, Patty Walker, Grand Bay, AL; Marilyn Breland, Mississippi, Bobby Joe McCleod, Theodore, AL.
