Mr. Walter “Tom” Greene, age 79, of Cowarts, passed away December 24, 2015 at 10:45 PM.
Born November 8, 1936 in Bakerhill, AL to the late Jerry William and Fannie Mae Grubbs Greene, Tom served his country from 1955 – 1958 with the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing and after retiring, he enjoyed travelling with his wife, Priscilla. Tom was a loving husband, a caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Greene, William “Junior” Greene, and Derrell Greene; and a very special granddaughter, Paisleigh Elizabeth Carroll, that he loved very much.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Priscilla Pearce Greene; his children, Brenda (Allen) Sands, Sandra (Alfredo) Almendariz, LaDon (Joy) Greene, Scott Greene, Jennifer (Mitch) Carroll, Sandra (Tim) Hutto, and Frank (Candice) Williams; 18 grandchildren, Cassie Williams, Curtis Phillips, Chris Phillips, Journey Blalock, Harper Carpenter, Trouper Paulk, Bruce Lee, Kelly Kennedy, Chasity Auirantes, Allen G. Greene, Allen C. Carroll, Grady Carroll, Brittany Carroll, Chris H. Hutto, Ashley Hutto, Taylor Williams, Zach Taylor, and Xaiver Underwood; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon (Maureen) Greene of Eufaula and Charles (Jeanette) Greene of Abbeville; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scottie Hatcher officiating. Entombment will follow at Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 8 PM, Monday, December 28, 2015 at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Randy McClendon, Thomas Granger, Jeremy Miller, Robert Jones, Mitch Carroll, Ron Greene, and Jeff Kennedy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gift baskets/green plants or contributions may be made to Alacare Hospice, 3379 W Main Street, Dothan, AL 36305 or American Cancer Society, 2346 W Main Street, Ste 3, Dothan, AL 36301.
