 Obituary: Mr. William Eugene “Gene” Arnold

 

Mr. William Eugene “Gene” Arnold of Hartford passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Hartford Health Care. He was 92. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20 at Shiloh Baptist Church  with Rev. Ricky Hall & Rev. Coley M. Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing. 

In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to the Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund, 873 N. Shiloh Rd., Hartford, AL 36344. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5 until 7:00 p.m. 

Mr. Arnold was born on June 8, 1921 in Coffee Springs to the late John Abner and Mary Lizza Buckhalt Arnold. During his early years he was engaged in farming and also worked as a cattle rancher. Ever the public servant, Mr. Arnold proudly served in the United States Army in World War II and after twenty six years he retired from the Florida Department of Transportation. 

In addition to his parents, his wife, Gladys Barrett Arnold; one daughter, Peggy Jean Arnold; two brothers: Ralph and J.B. Arnold and three sisters: Thelma Childs, Myrtle Thomas and Verna Spann all preceded him in death.

 

Survivors include his son, Don Arnold (Alinda), Section, AL; one grandson, Donald Arnold II (Kelly), Brooksville, FL; one great grandson, Jesse Morgan Arnold; several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
