Ann Rains Bertagnolli passed away peacefully on January 14, 2017.

A memorial service will be held Monday, January 16, 2017, at 2 PM in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted or donations would be welcome to the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center, P. O. Box 8781, Dothan AL 36304, or the Shriners Hospital, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa FL 33607.

Mrs. Bertagnolli was born on June 17th, 1933, in Daphne, Alabama. She grew up in Daphne where she met and married her husband, A. W. (Ted) Bertagnolli, and started a family which grew to include four children. Her husband's work took them to live in a number of places around Alabama. Mrs. Bertagnolli took great pride in caring for her children and creating a comfortable home for her family. Mrs. Bertagnolli became a resident of Ashford in 1972.

After raising her children to independence, Mrs. Bertagnolli fulfilled a lifelong goal by becoming a nurse. She spent her career working in geriatrics, including a time of providing loving care to residents at an assisted-living home she owned in Ashford. Upon retirement, she and Mr. Bertagnolli were able to devote many hours to volunteering, working at fundraising events with the Alcazar Shriners and transporting children to receive no-cost medical care at the Shriners Hospitals. They spent time traveling together for as long as their health allowed. Mrs. Bertagnolli was a wonderful cook and an avid reader who spent many contented hours with her books. She also studied her Bible daily. Her Christian faith sustained her through every challenge of her life, including attending to her husband of 63 years throughout his illness until his passing in 2015.

Mrs. Bertagnolli lived to become a grandmother to eight and a great-grandmother to nine, who mourn her passing but celebrate her life and Christian example of devotion to faith and family. Mrs. Bertagnolli is survived by all four of her children, Kathy (Larry) Shelley, Andy (Deborah) Bertagnolli, Susan (Thomas) Dale, and Laura Bertagnolli, all of Ashford.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Extendicare for every kindness shown over these past difficult months.
