Betty Jean Chambliss Welch, a resident of Cottonwood, died Monday, January 23, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was 75.


Memorial services for Mrs. Welch will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Friendship Baptist Church in Malone, Florida with Brother John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 AM until 9:45 AM prior to the services at the church.


Mrs. Welch was born February 17, 1941 in Jackson County, Florida to the late Melvin and Mattie Lee Fears Chambliss. She was a 1959 graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Florida State University. Mrs. Welch began a career in retail working for Vanity Fair and later retired from Warner’s as a Supervisor. She loved plants, flowers, sewing and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.


Mrs. Welch is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Johnny Robert Welch; great grandchild, Breanna Jenkins; three sisters and six brothers.


Survivors include five daughters, Augusta Welch, Barbara Welch, Carol Welch, Lisa Welch and Angela Welch Morgan (Michael); grandchildren, Anthony Granger (Heather), Jamie Granger, Darren James (Tamara), Brandy Clark (Dakoda), Jeffrey James, John Welch, Derek McKinnie; thirteen great grandchildren; sister, Martha Chambliss and two brothers, Charles and Rodney Chambliss.
