Mrs. Betty Jean Long Dean, age 80, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday December 25, 2016 at the SAMC following an extended illness.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday December 28, 2016 at the Westgate Church of Christ with Minister Chris Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery (Hwy.431 N.) with Kendall Glover directing.


The family will be receiving friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Westgate Church of Christ prior to services.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Westgate Church of Christ c/o Solo Bible Study Group, Dothan, AL. 36303.


Mrs. Dean was born on December 10, 1936 in Napier Field the daughter of Woodrow Long and Inez Green Long.  She was retired as manager of Cannon Oil Station on Cottonwood Road and she was a graduate of Midland City High School.  Mrs. Dean was a member of the Westgate Church of Christ where she was active in the Solo Bible Study Class.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buddy Dean; grandson, RJ Johnson; 2 brothers, Billy & Tommy Long.


Survivors include: daughter, Kathy Johnson (Ronald), Rehobeth; son, James  Dean (Jackie), Dothan; 3 grandchildren, Alana Stevens (Michael); Jade Dean and Jamie Stewart (Stew); 2 great-grandchildren, Hayden & Hadley Stewart; 2 brothers, Wayne Long, Birmingham; Kenny Long (Bridget), Dothan; several nieces & nephews.


Pallbearers will be: David Gentry, Mark Emerson, Michael Stevens, Jack Burkhalter, Ray Wiehe and Jimmy Sawyer.


Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Solo Bible Study Group.
