Mrs. Betty Jo Durham Mathis of Pansey entered the Gates of Heaven with her family by her side at home on Monday, September 8, 2014. She was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Mouery and Reverend James Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Brinson, GA with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9 to 11 A.M. Thursday, September 11, 2014. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice 104 Rockbridge Rd, Dothan, AL 36303 or Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 3245 South County Rd 81, Gordon, AL 36343.
Mrs. Mathis was born and raised in Decatur County, Georgia before moving to Dothan. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She loved to cook, sew and travel. She was well loved and respected by the people of her church and the community.
She is preceded in death by her parents Royal Ellis Durham and Clara Ollieve Yates Durham, her previous husband Roy Williams, brother Roy Randy Durham, baby sister Shirley Ann Durham.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years Bobby Mathis of Pansey; daughter Cathy Brunson and her husband Neal of Pansey; son Ronnie Williams and his wife Yvette of Cottonwood; grandchildren Ronnie Williams, Jr., Ryan and Michelle Brunson, great-granddaughter Summer Dunham, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Wiliams, Jr., Ryan Brunson, Glenn Earnest, Dan Ward, Jr., Randy Durham, Jr., and Steve Griffin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Phillips and Wondall Culbreath.
A special thanks to the loving and caring sitters, Emily Stokes, Roddie Smiley, Ellen Graham and Bobbie Gary.
