Mrs. Betty Shields Newman of Geneva passed away on November 30, 2012.  She was 69.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva.  Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.


 Mrs. Newman was born in Hartford, AL on October 10, 1943 to Lehmon H. Shields and Nelma S. Shields.   She worked for many years with the Geneva County Extension Service, the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office and later with Geneva County District Judge George Black. She was preceded in death by her father and her step-daughter, Charlotte Newman.


 She is survived by her husband, Harold Newman of Geneva; two daughters, Julie Gilstrap Whittle (Kevin) of Thomasville, GA and Milisa Newman Bryant (Doug) of San Antonio, TX; son, Lee Parrish (Brittney Diane) of Geneva; mother, Nelma S. Shields of Hartford; four grandchildren, Logan Whittle, Corbin Whittle, Hanna Whittle and Kennedy Brook Parrish; several step grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three sisters, Merial Owens (Don) of Hosford, FL, Sybil Lewis (John) of Geneva and Connie McClenny of Hartford; brother, Phillip Shields of Hartford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
