Carleene Hughes, a resident of Dothan, passed away Monday, November 2, 2015 at her home after an extended battle with cancer. She was 81.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be held at 2 PM Thursday, November 5, 2015 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverend Rick Glenn and Reverend Billy Rich officiating. Burial will follow in Memphis Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service.

Mrs. Hughes was born February 4, 1934 in Henry County, Alabama to the late Marvin G. and Elmer Blackmon Holmes. She was a 1952 graduate of Cottonwood High School. Mrs. Hughes married J.L. Hughes on November 3, 1956 and they resided in Auburndale, Florida for many years before returning to Dothan in 1997. She was an active member of Memphis Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Minnie Bell Hooper Holmes, brother, Marvette Holmes and a sister, Geraldine Holmes Sallas.

Survivors include her husband, J.L. Hughes; daughter, Rhonda Jill Jowers; granddaughter, Christina Jones (Michael); great grandchildren, Michael Ashton Jones and Addyson Jones; two sisters, Patsy Hooper, Betty Joyce Gunter; brother, Eddie Carl Holmes (Era Jo) and an uncle, Wilton Blackmon.
