Donnie Vernell (Wilkinson) Crowley, passed away peacefully at her home, 1895 Lucy Grade Road, Ashford, Alabama. She was 98.
Visitation with the family will be 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday, January 16, 2015 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Dothan, AL. The funeral service will follow at Southern Heritage at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Lynn Miley officiating. Burial will follow in Cowarts Creek Church Cemetery on Lucy Grade Road.
In lieu of flowers the family request that Mrs. Crowley be honored by donations made to Cowarts Creek Church, c/o Mr. Rodney Fowler, 104 Coot Fowler Road, Dothan, AL 36301 or to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock BridgeRroad, Dothan, AL 36303.
In addition to being wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Crowley was an integral part of her husband’s life as a farmer and later as the two entertained family, friends, clubs, nursing homes and wherever they could with singing and music. Granny Crowley sang for family and others and recited “T’was the Night Before Christmas” until a few days prior to her death. During her active years she enjoyed Home Demonstration Club activities, farm functions, large family gathering, and enjoyed her many active years of church activities.
Mrs. Crowley was married for more than sixty-eight years to Clifford Barnett Crowley who predeceased her in July 2004. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Lovone Crowley in 1957 and son-in-law Wayne Love in 1983.
Mrs. Crowley is survived by a son, Gerald Crowley and his wife Mildred, and two daughters, Gerutha Love and Delores Frye and her husband Billy, as well as ten grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be at the Crowley home on Lucy Grade Road.
