Mrs. Dora Mitchell McKnight Pittman, age 89, a resident of Ashford, died late Monday September 15, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family, after an extended illness. 

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday September 18, 2014 at Antioch Baptist Church near Ashford with the Reverend’s John Smith, Greg Aman and Chaplain Phillip Durr officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing. 

The family will receive friends at Glover Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Alacare Hospice, 3379 W. Main St., Dothan, AL. 36305. 

Mrs. Pittman was born on November 2, 1924 in Geneva County the daughter of Robert Jackson McKnight and Maddie Jemima Temple McKnight.  She was retired as co-owner of Pittman Sausage Co. where she worked for 50 years.  Mrs. Pittman was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mitchell Frank Pittman; son, Sammy Joe Pittman; 8 sisters and 2 brothers. 

Survivors include: daughter, Martha Bowen, Ashford; daughter-in-law, Kathy Pittman, Ashford; 4 grandchildren, Angela Taylor (Scotty); Frankie Bowen; Carol Rogers (Alun); Mitch Pittman; 2 great-grandchildren, Jackson Bowen and Addison Rogers; sister-in-law, Mellrea King, Tallassee, AL.; grandchildren in Love, Jennifer Fortson (Lee) and Michelle Moore (Steven); several special nieces, nephews and friends; special friend and employee, Syble Harper, Ashford; special thanks to Angela, Teresa, Latonya, Juanita, Dee and the other staff of Alacare Hospice. 

Pallbearers will be: Frankie Bowen, Mitch Pittman, Scotty Taylor, Alun Rogers, Freddy Paul Wood, and Brian Edwards. 

Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
