Amelia Elise Godsey Lathem, 85, of Dothan, died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Henry County Health and Rehab.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Reverend Mike Pearson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Southern Heritage Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Elise was a daughter of the late Robert Earl and Amelia Kneip Godsey. She worked as the lunch room manager at Girard Middle School for approximately twenty years  prior to her retirement in 1989. She was a strong supporter of organ donations, having donated a kidney to her son Danny Lathem in 1965. Mrs. Lathem was a volunteer at Southeast Alabama Medical Center and was a member of the Lafayette United Methodist Church where she served many years on the Hostess Committee and sang in the adult choir.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Alacare Hospice for their care and support.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Daniel Lathem,  two sons, Carl Daniel Lathem, Jr, Carlton David Lathem; two daughters, Connie Dale Lathem and Donna Elise Lathem.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Lathem (David) Hogg, Dothan, Al; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis (Cathy) Lathem, Birmingham, Al; four grandchildren, Bailey Elizabeth Lathem, Nashville, TN, Anna Claire Lathem, Birmingham, Al, Daniel Anderson Hogg, Birmingham, Al and Amelia Leanna Hogg, Dothan, Al.
