Obituary: Mrs. Eltrym Avery

Mrs. Eltrym Avery of Slocomb passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at her home. She was 94. 


Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from the First United Methodist Church in Slocomb with Rev. Wes Kelley officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continuing until service time. 


The family will be meeting at 403 Bracewell Ave., Dothan, AL. 


Mrs. Avery was born May 18, 1920 in Greene County, AL to the late Robert Lee and Emily M. Newell Simpson. After high school she earned her RN license and later became the public health nurse (known by many as the "shot lady") with the Geneva County Health Department for 25 plus years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Slocomb. 


In addition to her parents, her husband, James Avery; three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. 


Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Terry Caylor, Slocomb; one grandchild, Shaun Caylor (Beth), Dothan;  one great-grandchild, Ellason Grace Caylor; one sister, Ida McLeod, Geneva; one niece, Sheila Atkins (Phil), Mississippi; two nephews, Terry Welborn (Winona), Slocomb and Greg Welborn (Melissa), Mississippi.
