Mrs. Elva Andress Ward, age 87, formerly of Dothan, Alabama died on March 25, 2016 in Acworth, Georgia following an extended illness.  A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 4, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Cemetery.  Rev. John Sanders will be officiating.


Mrs. Ward was born on August 17, 1928 in Madrid, Alabama.  She was the daughter of Dr. David Gustavus and Johnie Dooling Andress  of Madrid.  She was a graduate of Rehobeth High School and the Mobile Infirmary School of Nursing. She worked many years as a Registered Nurse at Moody Hospital. Mrs. Ward served on the Regional Advisory Council of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind where she served on the board of directors for three years. She was a member of the Alabama United Ostomy Association.  She was a member of the former Lafayette St. United Methodist Church, and the Ruth Sunday School Class.


Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Frank Ward.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Isaac Andress; sisters, Mary Jim Andress Cassady, Gustavus Andress Blackwell, and Elizabeth Andress Thomason.


Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Ward Bickford and son-in-law, John C. Bickford of Acworth, Georgia; two grandchildren, Ward Bickford, his wife Audra Bickford of Kennesaw, Georgia; Bethany Bickford Reeves, and her husband Joseph Reeves, of Birmingham.  Mrs. Ward is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and their children.
