Our loving mother, Mrs. Girtha Farmer Martin of Geneva, Alabama went home to be with Jesus on Friday, February 21, 2014.  She was 87.

 

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Jeff Peacock officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continue until service time.  The cemetery is located in Holmes County Florida on Hwy 177-A, north of State Hwy 2.

 

Mrs. Martin was born January 31, 1927, in Freeport, Florida to the late John Allen and Omie Lee Smith Farmer.  At the age of 16, she met and married her beloved husband of 70 years, Angus Huey Martin.  They adored each other and their love continued to grow each day until his death in 2013.  She set a godly example for her future generations by showing them a true picture of love and forgiveness.  We are very thankful that God blessed us with such a sweet mother.  Thank you Lord, for our parents who taught us to follow you.

 

In addition to her parents her husband, Angus Huey Martin, three brothers and sisters and one grandson, Michael Johnson, all preceded her in death.

 

Survivors include four children: Jackie Cole, Buddy Martin, Pat Martin and Rhonda Whiddon (Kent); nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

 

The family would like to say a special thank you and blessings to Pat Martin and Janie Mae Peoples, her caregivers through the last years of her life.
