Helen Parker Rolen, a resident of Dothan, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 at The Terrace at Grove Park. She was 96.


Graveside services for Mrs. Rolen will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 20, 2015 at Memory Hill cemetery with Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM this evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; First Baptist Church, 300 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


Mrs. Rolen was born January 26, 1919 to the late John and Ethel Parker. She lived in Dothan her entire life. Helen and her husband, Ewell, established Ideal Bakery in 1946, bringing homemade goods to Dothan. In August 1971, their son joined Ewell to open Rolen’s Bakery. In addition to working together, Helen and Ewell had exciting and hilarious adventures as they travelled across the United States in their motorhome. The family has enjoyed many afternoons listening to her regale them with these travel tales. Helen enjoyed playing bridge, visiting with friends and spending time with family. She especially liked hearing about all of the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Dothan where she served in a variety of roles. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sorely missed.


Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Ewell Rolen and a grandson, John L. Harris, III.


Mrs. Rolen is survived by two daughters, Dolores R. Harris, Atlanta, Cynthia R. Lumpkin, Dothan; son, and daughter in law, Guy and Jennifer Rolen, Dothan; grandchildren, Helen Smith, Lilburn, GA, Barbra Lail, Lookout Mountain, TN, Jill Pacer, Collierville, TN, Jeina Rolen, Smyrna, GA, and Brent Rolen, Orlando, FL; eight great-grandchildren, Sydney Smith, Ryan, Anna and Sara Pacer, Lindsay and Harris Lail, Jack and Charlie Rolen-Love.


The family wishes to offer a special thank you to the Terrace staff and nurses. Mother was family there.
