     Janice Ellen Carter Whitehead of Dothan passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016. She was 80.

     Born July 8, 1936 in Houston County to the late Gordie Preston and Vassie Oliver Carter, Janice was a member of Webb Baptist Church. She enjoyed embroidery and needlepoint and will be fondly remembered for her love of cooking. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family.

      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Greg Scott Benton; her step-son, Michael Whitehead; her step-daughter, Billie Denise Whitehead; and her brother, Charles Carter.

      She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Billy Wayne Whitehead; her daughter, Donna Boyd; her step-daughters, Debra (Derrick) Brock and Brenda Thurn; her son, Michael Ray Benton; her step-brothers, Tyrone Seales, Myron (Beth) Carter, and Milton (Terrie) Carter; her grandchildren, Jason (Janie) Boyd, Amber Croft, Ashton (Scott) Stewart, Tina (Chris) Landers, Stacey (Curt) Cook, Jeremy (Mindy) Tomberlin, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Tomberlin, Toby Thurn, and Todd (Amanda) Thurn; her step-grandchildren, Durran (Jenna) Brock and Katelyn (Caleb) Long; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

      Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, October 15, 2016 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Memory Hill Cemetery.

      The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted.
