Janis Ward Monk, a resident of Cottonwood, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at her residence. She was 76.


 


Funeral services for Mrs. Monk will be held at 11 AM Saturday, May 31, 2014 at First Baptist Church Cottonwood with Reverends Jimmy Bolin and John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood City cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.


 


Mrs. Monk was born December 31, 1937 in New Brockton, Alabama to Seth and Glennie Dismukes Ward. At an early age, she moved to Hartford where she grew up and graduated from Geneva County High School and was also a cheerleader. Mrs. Monk was a Lab Technician at Fort Rucker and after retirement, she and her husband owned and operated Bearland Video Flower and Gift Shop.


 


Survivors include her husband, Bobby Gene Monk; three sons, Jeffrey and Gail Monk, Sidney Monk, David and Gemma Monk, all of Cottonwood; three grandchildren, Jesi and Jeremy Johnson, Jared Monk, Seth Monk; great grandson, Bryson Johnson.


 


The family wishes to thank Hospice Advantage and especially, Jenny and Kendra for their love and care during this time.
