At the age of 15, Joyce Helms married her teenage sweetheart, Dekalb Carpenter. They shared 63 years together; she worked beside him during those years together operating Carpenter Tractor Company, row cropping and cattle farming on a large scale. Mrs.Carpenter mastered all aspects of farming and was revered by all who knew her as a hardworking lady. Her farm passion settled with the cows. She loved feeding and caring for them every day. She called them “her ladies”. She was featured in a state magazine for her excellence in the cattle industry. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Another passion was cooking and having family and friends sit down to a meal of home raised vegetables and meat. She was a member of the Pine Level Baptist Church and she loved her Lord. She had a longtime friend, Charlie Green, who in the recent years accompanied her with the farming duties as her health declined.

Mrs. Carpenters’ family would like to thank everyone for the prayers, visits, calls and cards to check on Mrs. Carpenter and they would also like to thank Caregiver Vonn Blackmon and Compassus Hospice for their wonderful care of Mrs. Carpenter.
