Mrs. Lois Vernell Johnson Galloway, 87, of Westville, Florida, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, due to the complications of Alzheimer’s disease at Signature HealthCARE in Graceville, Florida surrounded by her family.

Vernell was born on November, 27, 1927, in Westville, Florida.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lafayette and Lillie Belle Johnson, five brothers and five sisters.

She was married to Reo Lavelle Galloway for 39 years until his death in November of 1985.  Vernell was the mother of six children. She was preceded in death by her son, William Donald Galloway, her daughter and son-in-law, Nannette Galloway Beck and Warren Harris Beck.  She is survived by four daughters, one daughter-in-law and four sons-in-law.  Hilda and Jimmy Spears of Bartow, FL, Peggy and Greg Ross of Geneva, AL, Sandra and Thomas Earnhart of Manchester, TN, Miranda and Michael Horrell of Overland Park, KS, and Sharon Anderson Galloway (daughter-in-law) of Valdosta, GA.  She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Jennifer Spears Kunz (Andy), Longwood, FL, Candace Beck Smyth (Frank), Washington D.C., Jimmy Spears, Jr. (Deborah), Lithia, FL, Stephen Galloway (Amanda), Marietta, GA, Misty Ross Bixby (Rich), Geneva, AL, Natalie Beck Justice (Ron), Geneva, AL, Lauren McCraney Mueller, Ft. Myers, FL, Kacie Ross Johnson (Dennis), Hartford, AL, Lindsey McCraney Cole (David), Cape Coral, FL, Ben Galloway, Macon, GA, Jena McCraney McEwen (Scott), Pittsburg, PA, Emily Horrell, Overland Park, KS, and Allison Horrell, Overland Park, KS; Vernell was also blessed with 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou Beagles; numerous nieces and nephews.

Vernell retired from The Phillips Van Heusen Company after working there for more than thirty years.  She was a life-long member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church in Westville, Florida.  Vernell loved to cook, sew, garden and spend time with her family and friends.

Services will be held at Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Dr. Jerry Galloway officiating.  The address is 2744 W. Magnolia Ave. Geneva, AL.  The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 7, 2015, with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 AM.  Graveside services will follow at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Westville, Florida with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Signature HealthCARE of North Florida in Graceville for the professionalism, care, love and compassion shown to their beloved Mother during the past twenty months.
