Mrs. Mary Nell Brooks Dykema of Geneva, Alabama went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, June 26, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 86.


Funeral services with be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at the First Baptist Church in Geneva with Rev.Nathan Carroll officiating. The family will receive friends at the church at 10:00 prior to the services. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.


Flowers accepted or the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 309 S. Commerce St. Geneva, AL 36340.


The eighth of ten children, Mrs. Dykema was born January 23, 1928 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late L.C. and Susie Frances Finney Brooks. She was a 1945 graduate of Samson High School graduating as the Class Valedictorian. Mrs. Dykema lived all of her life in Geneva County working over 40 years as a bookkeeper before retiring in 1987. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, John Junior Dykema, three sisters, Evelyn B. Tew, Jewel B. Wise and Mildred B. Stinson, as well as four brothers, Bryant C. Brooks, Roy M. Brooks, Ben H. Brooks and Wyman B. Brooks.


Survivors include two daughters Cindy Campbell, and Cathy Bennett (Ricky) of Geneva, one son Charles Coleman (Carol),  Lynn Haven , FL, one step daughter Kathy Sasser (Jerry), Geneva, one step son, Jack Dykema (Judi), Seagrove Beach, FL; two sisters, Clara (Gerald) Bell, Dothan, AL, Elaine B. Stokes, Goshen, AL.  grandchildren: Bridgett White (Randal),  Brooks Bennett (Whitney), Brent Bennett, Paisley Kelly  (Chris), Alicia Carothers (Ben), Steve Bynum (Christi), Brad Bynum (Jenny), Heather Owen (Hunter), Jennifer Byrd (David), Stephanie Snyder (Bart), Dennis Sasser (Karen), Steve Sasser (Kim) and 25 great grandchildren.


Serving as pallbearers: Brooks Bennett, Brent Bennett, Randal White, Brad Bynum, Steve Bynum, and Chris Kelly.
