Mrs. Mellie Howell Stephens of Lake Fox Road, Chancellor, Alabama went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, April 26, 2013.  She was 89.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in the El Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Don Tew officiating.  Mrs. Stephens will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time.  Burial will follow in the Meadowlawn Cemetery in Enterprise with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, April 29, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the El Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Stephens was born August 28, 1923, to the late George W. and Bessie L. Chancellor Howell.  She was a 1940 graduate of New Brockton High School a member of the Chancellor Lodge Order of Eastern Star for 50 years.  Mrs. Stephens was a very loving mother and grandmother.  El Bethel was blessed to have her as a faithful member for many years.

In addition to her parents, her husband, D.T. Stephens, a son, Edwin Ray Stephens, as well as two brothers, Robert and Ray Howell, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Stephens Kotheimer (John), Norcross, GA; three sons: Dee Troy Stephens, III (Patricia), Chancellor, George Richard Stephens (Trecia), Geneva, and Michael O’Neal Stephens, Connecticut; two sisters: Frances Oates and Olene Howell, both of Chancellor; one brother, Ed Howell, Montgomery; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
