Obituary:  Mrs. Merle Horn 


Mrs. Merle Horn of Hartford passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was 97. 


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home with Dr. Ralph Brannon, Rev. Chris Kroll and Rev. Bruce Spivey officiating.  Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.  Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Hartford Baptist Church, 105 E. Burch St. Hartford, AL 36344. 


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 until service time. 


Mrs. Horn was born on January 20, 1916 in Dale County to the late Pitt Callaway and Eloise Hanner Walden. She was a member of Hartford Baptist Church. 


She was preceded in death by her husband, H.L. Horn; two sons: Pitt Larkin and Ronnie Ezell Horn; six brothers and one sister. 


Survivors include one son, John W. “Red” Horn (Barbara); two daughters:  Nina Sutton and Nancy Horn Morton; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Louise Godwin, Elouise Ackhouse and Nancy Ruth Bass; one sister-in-law, Elma Walden; several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
