In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hartford Baptist Church, 105 East Burch Street, Hartford, AL 36344 or Gentiva Hospice of Dothan.

Mrs. Chesteen was a faithful long time member of Hartford Baptist Church where she served as youth Sunday School teacher for many years, member of the Hartford Baptist Choir, and the Esther Sunday School class.  Mrs. Chesteen graduated from Rawls High School in Covington County.   She worked with Wiregrass Electric in Hartford for 34 years and retired in 1994. As a Christian wife, she shared with her husband through his coaching career, the opportunity to influence young lives. The rewards for her were the many visits from her husband’s former players and the stories that were remembered of good times.  Her Christian influence as a mother taught her children about the love of Christ, the love of family and friends, and the love of home. As a grandmother, her life’s works were rewarded as she watched her grandchildren become adults and honored and cared for her in her time of need.  Through all of her illnesses she never complained and endured them with grace. In the later years GG and Tippy were able to share their love for their great grandchildren; memories made with those little ones that will last a life time. Their lives together were so blessed and now they are rejoicing together in heaven.

Mrs. Chesteen was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Edith Smith and her loving husband of sixty three years, J. D. Chesteen of Hartford.

She is survived by one son, Donnie Chesteen (Stephanie) of Geneva; one daughter, Gail Justice (Rickey) of Hartford; five loving grandchildren: Jill Bertella (Brian) of Birmingham, Brent Justice (Jenna) of Hartford, Brooke Smith (Will) of Birmingham, Christopher Chesteen of Hartford, Roxanna Chesteen of Birmingham; ten great grandchildren: Sophie, Bennett, and Mary Beth Bertella, Maddie Katherine Justice, Grayce and Madison Chesteen, Jaxon Donaldson, Brody, Ellison and Miller Smith;  one brother-in-law, Charles Nelson (Shirley) of Dothan; one special lifelong family friend, Barbara Hughes and her son Rusty of Hartford; two special caregivers: Tammy Fulford and Joyce Hatcher of Hartford and numerous cousins.

Special thanks to Gentiva  Hospice of Dothan for their compassion and care.
