Ruby Battles Crenshaw Thomas, 86, of Dothan, Alabama, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.


Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 17, 2013 in Clearman Chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Brother Mel Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery with Southern Heritage directing.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, Alabama 36303


The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. Thursday prior to the services and at other times will be at the family residence.


Born in Houston County, Ruby was a daughter of the late Huey and Genera Martin Battles. She worked in sales with Gibson’s Retail Store and K-Mart, retiring from K-Mart following thirteen years of service. Following her retirement she worked for several years with Florida Microfilm. She is a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Cottonwood Road.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Rufus Franklin Crenshaw and Perry LaGrann Thomas.


Surviving are two sons, Michael F. Crenshaw & wife Patsy of Dothan and Kenneth Paul Crenshaw of Dothan; a daughter, Kathy Lowther and husband Richard of Dothan; a sister, Mary Etheridge and husband, Sammy of Dothan; three grandchildren, Nicole Trammell and husband, Jason; Dr. Bryan Crenshaw and Brandon Crenshaw.
