Mrs. Vera Douglas McCallister, age 86, of Dothan passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 in Graceville, Florida.

 

Born December 25, 1928 in Henry County to the late Troy and Ola Lee Kelley Douglas, Mrs. McCallister was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church. She enjoyed flowers and gardening and baking for shut-ins. She taught the Primary Class at Bethel Baptist Church and also at Kinsey Baptist Church for many years. She loved helping people and after the death of her parents, she helped raise her brothers.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Roy McCallister; her sisters, Sarah Francis and Arlene; and her brothers, Troy Byrd and Willie.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Nolen; her brothers, M. C. Douglas (Sarah), Tony Douglas (Jeanette), and Jerry Douglas; her grandchildren, Anna and Hope; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Kinsey Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 11 AM, Tuesday, November 10, 2015 one hour prior to the service.

 

The family will be accepting flowers.
