Verbie Benton, 90, formerly of Ashford, Alabama, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Community Health and Rehabilitation Center in Panama City, Florida.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church with Pastors Mike Parker and Jason Parker officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the services.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Brian Waters, Eric Jones, Steven Jones, Camden Baker, Nathan Willis and David Willis.


Born in Houston County, Alabama, Verbie was the daughter of the late J.J. and Candice Sewell Watkins. She was a precious wife, mother and grandmother. She cooked and served the meals for Wednesday night suppers, and was a beloved children’s Sunday school teacher, and faithful member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Benton; a son, Ronald Coleman; two brothers, Ray Sewell and William M. Watkins.


Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia (Mike) Parker, Panama City, FL and Wanda (Tommy) Waters, Madison, AL; five grandchildren, Tina Willis, Angie Baker, Lori Jones, Brian Waters and Jason Parker; nine great-grandchildren, Steven Jones, Eric Jones, David Willis, Nathan Willis, Kenton Baker, Camden Baker, Alyssa Baker, Lexi Parker and Jeremy Parker.
