Obituary:  Mrs. Vernell P. Hartzog

Date: April 17, 2015

 

 

Mrs. Vernell P. Hartzog of Slocomb passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Westside Terrace Health Care. She was 93. 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Goodwater Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continuing until service time. 

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Goodwater Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 41 State Highway 103, Newton, AL 36352. 

Mrs. Hartzog was born November 5, 1921 in Slocomb, AL to the late Edward and Viola Smith Peters . She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed. 

In addition to her parents, her husband, Harold Hartzog; son, Don Hartzog; two granddaughters: Starla and Shannon Hartzog;  three sisters and one brother all preceded her in death. 

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Cobb (Bill), Wicksburg; one son, Jerry Hartzog (Christine), Wicksburg; two sisters: Nadine Thomley, Crestview, FL and Eileen Clark, Black; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. 

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Westside Terrace and Southern Care Hospice for the love and care that was so freely given to Mrs. Vernell.
