Mary Agnes Wise, age 93, of Dothan passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Westside Terrace.

 

Born September 6, 1922 in Samson, Alabama to the late James Herron and Christian Evalena French Wise, Mary earned her Bachelor of Science degree from University of Montevallo and her Master of Religious Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Her love of teaching children took her to the North Carolina school system, Mobile City Schools, Dothan City Schools (10 years), and St. Joseph Public Schools in Missouri (11 years). She was a past member of the Dothan Art League and the Southeast Alabama Genealogy Society. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan and was an accomplished artist. She wrote and published a book on the Wise family tracing genealogies back many generations and provided brief biological sketches of hundreds of family members. She also compiled a book on biblical promises which was a great encouragement to many friends and family members.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers; one sister; and Samuel and Nadine Maddox.

 

Survivors include her sister, Helen Rush; her brother, Grady L. Wise; her sister-in-law, Faye Wise; members of the Maddox family whom she considered her closest friends and family; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 

Graveside services will be held at 3 PM, Friday, March 25, 2016 at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery north of Samson with David Maddox and Jay Maddox officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

 

The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:00 PM prior to the service at the cemetery.
