Myrtle C. Barnes, 91, of Cottonwood passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Gadsden Memorial in Quincy, FL.


Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Earl Sellers officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton, AL with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.


Mrs. Barnes was born on December 8, 1921 in Dale County and lived the early years of her life there and she resided the middle years of her life in South Florida. In 1965 Mrs. Barnes moved to Panama City, Florida where she was employed with Lisenby Hospital as a nurse until her retirement in 1976. She then moved to Cottonwood, AL where she attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.


Mrs. Barnes is survived by her husband, Ray Barnes, Cottonwood, AL; two sons, Wendell (Joanne) Barnes, Cottonwood, AL and Eddie (Judy) Barnes, Tallahassee, FL; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd Cason and Gilbert Cason; two sisters, Opal Burk and Edna Shoemaker; several nieces and nephews also survive.
