HEADLAND…Nancy Stevens Smothers, a resident of Headland, died late Saturday afternoon, October 4, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. She was 63.


            Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 8, 2014, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend James A. Rich officiating. The family will receive friends at the chapel from noon Wednesday until service time.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.


            A native of Dothan, Mrs. Smothers was the daughter of the late Billie E. and Jacqueline Fuller Stevens. She was a graduate of Dothan High School and she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama. Mrs. Smothers obtained a Media Specialist certification from Auburn University.  She had lived in Headland since 1987 and retired as the Media Specialist at Headland High School in 2009. In earlier years, she taught kindergarten at Ashford Elementary and Cottonwood Elementary Schools.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Gary W. Smothers, Headland; a daughter, Rachel Lee (Scott), Dothan; two brothers, Keith Stevens (Teresa) and Eddie Stevens (Laura), all of Dothan; a grandson, Casey Lee; mother-in-law, Sheila Ruth “Jackie” Smothers, Headland; two sisters-in-law, Laurie Christine Tasker, Dothan and Sheila Cruz, Headland; two brothers-in-law, Terry Smothers and Kevin (Shelley) Smothers, all of Headland.
