Nelson E. Granberry, 79, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, December 17, 2015 at his residence.


 


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Thomas Kirkland officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 on Sunday.


 


Mr. Granberry was born December 3, 1936 in Henry County and lived the early years of his life there. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for 4 years before being honorably discharged. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Betty Lou Granberry while working as an aircraft electrician at Ft Rucker. In 1970 he became a pilot with Dothan Aviation Company as a contracting crop duster and also established Granberry Landscaping. It later became Nelson-Granberry Company and he operated it until 1983. He then continued working as a heavy equipment operator for several companies until his retirement. Mr. Granberry loved spending time with his wife at Lake Eufaula and his grandchildren, and his dog, ‘Bama’.


 


He is predeceased by his wife, Betty Lou Granberry, a sister, Irelle Granberry and three brothers, Jimmie Granberry, Howard Granberry and Elvis Granberry.


 


He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Granberry of Ft. Myers, FL, Sonja Granberry Webster and Mandy G. Strickland (Dwight), all of Dothan; eight grandchildren, Talia Mills (Gene), Jesse Nelson Webster (Chelsea), Mark Webster, Jr., Peyton Brown, Maddox Brown, Tyler Strickland, Kaleb Strickland and Zachary Strickland; three great-grandchildren, Alexa Mills, Lilly Dane Mills, and Jagger Webster; a brother, Tommy Granberry of Echo and a sister, Carolyn Spann of Tumbleton.
