Nicholas “Nick” Dionysius Spiro Cheriogotis, 58, of Dothan, AL, passed away peacefully at his home on January 1, 2015. Nick was born on August 28, 1956 to Spiro and Eleanore Cheriogotis in Birmingham, AL. Nick owned and operated Pig Out Barbeque up until his death, after dedicating a large part of his life to the family business, Vend Serve, Inc.

Nick is survived by: his wife, Jane Cheriogotis; his son Spiro Cheriogotis & wife (Lucy Greer Cheriogotis); his daughter Maria Cheriogotis; his loving father, Spiro Cheriogotis Sr.; his sister Carlee Cheriogotis Foster; and his two nephews, Scott & Gresham Foster. Nick was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanore Cheriogotis, and his brother-in-law, Scotty Foster.

Nick was an avid outdoorsman who lived for the solitude of a deer stand, the chase of a Tom, and the bite of a line. Nick enjoyed relaxing with his dachshunds, lounging on sandy shores with Jane, hanging with old golfing buddies, and loudly cheering on the Crimson Tide.

Nick’s pride in his Greek heritage was evident in both the grill he labored over and his large appetite for life. While his time with us was shortened, his family and friends take solace in the fact that he lived each day to its fullest.

Shortly before his death, Spiro and Lucy blessed Nick with the news that they were expecting twins. Nick’s memory will continue to grow in the stories relayed to his grandchildren, passed on by their parents, family, and the friends who knew him well.

A funeral service celebrating Nick will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation from 11–1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you direct memorials to a cancer foundation of your choosing or the Wiregrass Humane Society (PO Box 1045, Dothan, Alabama 36302).

Robert Byrd of Sunset Funeral Home, (334) 983-6604, is in charge of arrangements. Please call us or visit www.SunsetMemorialPark.com for more information.
