Mr. Charles Norman Lewis Jr. 68 of Ozark, Alabama died January 23, 2017 in Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama after an extended illness.


A memorial service for Mr. Lewis will be held 3:00 P. M. Wednesday, January 25, 2017, in Westview Memorial Cemetery with Reverend John D. Reese, III officiating, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.


Mr. Lewis was born December 7th, 1948 in Dothan, Alabama the son of the late Mr. Charles Norman Lewis and the late Mrs. Willie Mae Andrews Lewis of Ewell, Alabama. Norman grew up in Ewell, Alabama where he always enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all other outdoor activities with his family. He attended Ozark City Schools and graduated from Carroll High School in 1967. After graduating high school, he continued his education at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Troy University. Norman served in the Alabama National Guard for eight years based at the Armory in Ozark, Alabama. He began his career at White Knight Manufacturing Company in Ozark, Alabama in varied positions including Material Utilization Manager and Plant Manager. He continued his textile manufacturing career at Dale Manufacturing Company in Daleville, Alabama where he served as the Plant Manager. Norman then worked in management at Pridecraft Enterprises in Enterprise, Alabama. Norman also worked in Clio, Alabama with Dowling Textiles where he served as Plant Manager. He also worked with the Dothan Eagle/Enterprise Ledger. However, most of his work career was in manufacturing plants designing and supervising the construction of hospital gowns. During his fight with heart disease he continued to inspect the hospital gowns that he found himself wearing at the University of Alabama Hospital, The Southeast Alabama Medical Center, and Flowers Hospital to see who made the gowns and how well they were constructed. Norman loved his family, the land he spent so much time on in Ewell throughout his life, and Alabama Football. He fought a courageous battle with congestive heart failure for over ten and a half years. He is survived by his wife of over forty years, Mrs. Reine Novak Lewis of Ozark, his son Dr. Thomas Norman Lewis, and his wife Katherine of Dothan, his son Mr. Walter Ronald Lewis of Ozark, his brother Mr. Ronald J. Lewis, and his wife Saubrena of Ewell, his nephew Mr. Dustin Lewis of Savannah, and his brother-in-law Mr. Walter Novak of Ozark. Any remembrances to honor the life of Norman will be accepted. Charitable donations may be made in Norman's memory to the American Heart Association or the charity of one's choice.
