Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL

Mr. James Foy Watson passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, December 11, 2016, following an extended illness.  He was 83 years old.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Thursday, December 15, 2016, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Greg Aman officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Wednesday from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M.

Mr. Watson was born in Dale County on August 2, 1933.  After a long career in construction in Ozark, James served as Dale County Revenue Commissioner for fifteen years.  He was a founding member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ozark.  He not only helped construct the original church building, but also served faithfully as one of their deacons for many years.  James was instrumental in establishing the Marley Mill Volunteer Fire Department in Dale County.  His community service included numerous fund-raising events.  More than anything, he enjoyed visiting with people in his community.  James was a simple man who loved God, Evelyn (his wife of sixty-four years), and his family.  His hobbies included singing in the church choir, growing vegetables, and raising Black Angus cattle on his farm. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.  He was preceded in death by his father, Foy Watson; his mother, Clyde Johnston Watkins; and an older brother, Talmadge Watson.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Chapman Watson; his son, Raymond Watson (Sherry); three grandchildren, Jay Watson (Jeane`), Katie Watson Dansby (Kyle), and Laura Watson Evans (Nick); three siblings, Clarence Watson, Travis Watson (Brenda), and Sara Harper (Carey). Four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Flowers will be accepted or in the words of James, make a donation to the Marley Mill Volunteer Fire Department,  3299 North County Road 21, Ozark, Alabama  36360.
