Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL


 


Mr. James Newton “Newt” Head, 90 of Dothan, formerly of Ozark, died Friday evening, October 21, 2016, at his home with his three daughters by his side.


Funeral services will be 2:30 P. M. Tuesday, October 25, 2016, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Billy Rich and Reverend Bob Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Tuesday from 1:00 P. M. until service time.


Mr. Head was born October 17, 1926 in Butler County, Alabama to the late Joseph and Ola Bena Whiddon Head.  He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him.  Mr. Head resided in Ozark, Alabama from 1960 to 1980 where he was employed by Folmar’s OK Tire Store.  In 1980 he moved to Dothan, Alabama where he owned and operated Head’s Chevron Service Station on US 231 South until 1996.  He was a member of Grandview Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Violet Burkett Head, three brothers and one sister.


Survivors include his three daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Simmons, Sandi (Neal) Phillips, and Donna (John) Walker, all of Dothan, Alabama; one brother, Wade Head of Greenville, Alabama; eleven grandchildren, and twenty-seven great grandchildren.


The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful care given to their father.  Also, special thanks to Ms. Annie Williams, Neasa Goodman, Marquita McCarter, Kiva Davis, Nikki Andrews, and Ashley Brown for the special love and care they administered to him.  Papa loved them all.
